CSD’s tele is equipped with computers that use both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Pick any class, and you will have the option of working either in a PC or Mac environment. In addition, we have reworked our classes in order to provide you with more ideas for classroom application using technology. Our focus is on student outcomes and developing 21st Century skills. One upcoming class that may interest you is Empowering Students with Podcasting. It will next be November 4 & 5 from 4 to 7 o’clock.
Did you know that you don’t have to own an iPod or even a MP3 player to create and listen to your own podcasts? Learn in this two night class how to record digital audio broadcasts, edit them and upload them to the web. Teachers in any grade level can use this technology to create podcasts of their lectures or class discussions so that students can listen to them again for reinforcement, or, students who were absent can catch up on work missed. Participants will also create lessons for their students that require them to create their own radio broadcasts, performances, interviews and more. Learn how this using this tool in the classroom can help auditory learners and motivate reluctant learners. Walk away with your own original podcast! For those interested, one graduate credit is available. This class is $138 for CSD members, plus extra for the grad credit. Non members pay $214 plus extra for the grad credit.

Also last week was Boundless Learning with Videoconferencing- our two night tele class on interactive videoconference. Educators from Ursuline Academy, Mehlville School District, Francis Howell School District, and Kirkwood School District were in attendance. We also had some CSD staff come to learn more about New Links to New Learning.
Our first night, we connected to David Mazza at NASA and learned about the program offerings at Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The Glenn Research Center develops and transfers critical technologies that address national priorities through research, technology development, and systems development for safe and reliable aeronautics, aerospace, and space applications. They also offer fantastic videoconferences!
Our second night, we connected to Ray Vollmer at AIMS (Adventures in Medicine and Science at Saint Louis University). Utilizing a state-of-the-art facility on the campus of Saint Louis University used by practicing physicians for continuing medical education. The inquiry-based methods employed by faculty in the AIMS program focus on activities that challenge students and stimulate experiential learning. Ray showed us a healthy heart compared to an enlarged one; a healthy brain versus one that had suffered a massive stroke, and explained how he teaches lessons to students.
We also went over videoconference basics: bridging, content providers, databases, equipment, scheduling, etc. Our next session of Boundless Learning with Videoconferencing is in January 2010!

This fall, Boundless Learning with Videoconferencing will take place September 16 & 17, 4 to 7 p.m. each evening.
Research has shown that video-conferencing can increase student motivation and learning by figuratively tearing down the walls of the classroom, providing students with experiences and relationships that they would otherwise never be able to have. In this tele workshop, you will have the chance to create a lesson using videoconferencing that fits into your curriculum. Come learn how to find, design, and participate in virtual field trips and collaborative projects. These lessons promote higher order thinking skills & increase motivation.
Participants will:
• Be introduced to the equipment and how it works, and to CSD’s award-winning videoconferencing program, New Links to New Learning
• Learn how to find videoconference content
• Connect to content providers for videoconference demonstrations
• Create an inquiry-based lesson
• Design virtual field trips or collaborative projects
• Understand the difference between H323 videoconferencing protocol and Skype
And don’t forget, New Links to New Learning members, you can attend this class for free!
