The Super Early Bird registration for the Midwest Education Technology Conference has been extended to Tuesday, December 15th.  The pre-conference sessions on Monday are filling fast.  In these full and half day workshops you can learn about Digital Projects, Give Your Lesson Plan an Extreme Makeover, or Learn more about Second Life or Twitter, among other choices.
Be sure to also check out the full list of shorter breakout sessions for Tuesday & Wednesday in the Program Grid.  Breakout sessions are organized into 13 topic strands such as Web 2.o, Differentiated Instruction, Leadership & Professional Development & Library Media Center.  You can also search the program by keyword, then register online.

secondlifeToday is day two of Second Life for Educators Level I at Cooperating School Districts. Picking up where they left off yesterday, participants are examining what Second Life can offer educators, including learning ways to teach within the virtual world, and searching out tutorial videos.

Today and tomorrow Stacey Franks is teaching Second Life for Educators Level 1 at Cooperating School Districts. (Level II is later this week). The Level 1 class takes participants into the virtual world of Second Life and showcases many of the top educational uses.

Second Life ClassroomThe Virtual Learning Center is pleased that we are conducting several new classes this summer in the tele to K-12 educators! Second Life, a 3D virtual world created by it “residents,” offers a range of new and exciting possibilities for educators and their students. The VLC is offering two levels of classes on Second Life this summer. Since we first posted about this in March, several people have registered, so if you are interested, now is the time to sign up!

Second Life for Educators- Level I

Already there is a broad range of prominent educational institutions and organizations exploring the use of virtual worlds for the delivery of a wide range of courses and educational events including distance and flexible education, presentations and discussions, historical recreations, multimedia and game design and language learning practice. This class takes you into Second Life & showcases many of the top educational uses!

[Single day classes are $138 for CSD members, $214 for nonmembers and 2 day classes are $276 for CSD members, $428 nonmembers]

Second Life for Educators- Level II

The advanced class takes participants who have completed Second Life for Educators- Level I into the more advanced features of the multi-user virtual environment. Participants learn how to participate in a personal learning network in Second Life and how to create their own learning environment.
