The Virtual Learning Center is pleased that we are conducting several new classes this summer in the tele to K-12 educators! Second Life, a 3D virtual world created by it “residents,” offers a range of new and exciting possibilities for educators and their students. The VLC is offering two levels of classes on Second Life this summer. Since we first posted about this in March, several people have registered, so if you are interested, now is the time to sign up!
Second Life for Educators- Level I

Already there is a broad range of prominent educational institutions and organizations exploring the use of virtual worlds for the delivery of a wide range of courses and educational events including distance and flexible education, presentations and discussions, historical recreations, multimedia and game design and language learning practice. This class takes you into Second Life & showcases many of the top educational uses!
[Single day classes are $138 for CSD members, $214 for nonmembers and 2 day classes are $276 for CSD members, $428 nonmembers]
Second Life for Educators- Level II
June 18, 2009 at CSD: www.csd.org/tele
The advanced class takes participants who have completed Second Life for Educators- Level I into the more advanced features of the multi-user virtual environment. Participants learn how to participate in a personal learning network in Second Life and how to create their own learning environment.

The Midwest Education Technology Conference starts today with over a dozen preconference sessions throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. Topics include Second Life, Moodle, Cyber Safety, Digital Camera & Photo Editing, and Digital Storytelling. Today is day two of Second Life for Educators Level I at Cooperating School Districts. Picking up where they left off yesterday, participants are examining what Second Life can offer educators, including learning ways to teach within the virtual world, and searching out tutorial videos.
