This year marked Cooperating School Districts’ first at offering professional development webinars through the Virtual Learning Center for K-12 educators. We’re looking forward to continuing the events into the summer and next school year, too. Both SMART Board workshops listed are 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at Cooperating School Districts and cost $149 for CSD members and $189 for non-members. There is 1 graduate credit available with each workshop. Both of these workshops- Level 2 and Level 3- are for more advanced users. If you are new to SMART Boards, we suggest you enroll in the May 31st SMART Board Level 1 workshop.

Creating SMART Board Lessons to Engage and Motivate Students (Level 2) on June 8 Already have a SMART Board and consider yourself a user? Learn some of the advanced features of the SMART Board in this intermediate workshop. Become adept at creating recordings of what you do on the SMART Board for future playback; find out how to use the video player that comes with your SMART Board to annotate videos, plus much more. PREREQUISITE: Level 1 Training or equivalent

Best Practices in SMART Notebook Lesson Creation (Level 3) on July 20
Enhance your ability to create professional and interactive SMART Notebook lesson activities! This content creation class provides instruction for creating content with SMART Notebook collaborative learning software; create interactive lesson activities based on curriculum standards & best practices scoring guides. PREREQUISITE: Level 2 Training or equivalent

Mark you calendar! Transforming Learning with a SMART Board (Level 1) takes place Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Cooperating School Districts’ tele. This workshop kicks off our summer professional development schedule and runs 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is a class for beginners with no prior knowledge of using the interactive aspects of the SMART Board. You’ll learn how this tech tool can improve the way you teach, plus excite learners. Discover how to find and develop lesson plans that make use of this classroom tool and motivate 21st century students. Cost: $149 CSD member; $189 non-member. Martha Bogart is wrapping up her SMART Board Level 2 class right now! This workshop was for educators who already have a SMART Board and consider themselves users. They learned some of the advanced features of the SMART Board.  With Martha’s help, they became adept at creating recordings on the SMART Board for future playback; they found out how to use the video player that comes with their SMART Board to annotate videos, plus much more. Look for more sessions to be offered this summer!

Here’s a ‘postcard‘ for these teachers to send back to their schools- many districts in the St. Louis metro area have spring break this week- yet several educators came to Cooperating School Districts today to participating in Martha’s SMART Board training. Kudos to you! You’ll have lots of great, new information to take back to your classroom’s next week.

We’re currently working on our summer tele schedule. Registration isn’t quite up yet, but the first class of the summer place Thursday, May 31st- and it’s another SMART Board Level 1 workshop.

Are you familiar with the nine instructional strategies researched by Dr. Robert Marzano at McREL? Do you have a SMART Board, but feel you are not using it to its fullest? Then this workshop is for you! Certified SMART Instructor, Martha Bogart, will lead participants through a full day of hands-on experiences based on the book, Using Technology with Classroom Instruction That Works. Martha, along with other certified instructors from CSD, will provide concrete ideas and practice with the SMART Notebook software, SMART Response, SMART Ideas concept mapping software, SMART document camera, and the SMART Slate. We will discuss each of the nine classroom instruction strategies and show you how you can use your Interactive White Board to achieve higher student engagement and success. Come see ideas for using these SMART products in your classroom and leave with a variety of ideas for using the nine Marzano strategies at the same time. Participants will walk away with concrete ideas and a SMART Notebook file they can use and/or modify.

This Discovery workshop, lead by Stephanie Madlinger, is for dynamic educators who are enthusiastic about designing lesson activities to increase student engagement and participation. Learn how Discovery Education streaming digital media resources can be used with your interactive whiteboards. Engage today’s learner by using images, videos, and audio files with your IWB lessons and by creating multimedia projects with your students. Participants will learn how to integrate DE streaming digital media into a variety of applications such as SMART Notebook, Promethean Flipchart, Moodle, Glogster, VoiceThread, Animoto and more. Skills covered can be applied to any subject area and any grade level!

Throughout your time at CSD’s tele, you’ll discover ways to develop curriculum-based digital media projects and lessons with DE streaming resources. We will touch on copyright compliance issues, practice finding images and music, create voice-overs using SMART & Promethean recorders, and the free download, Audacity.

Prerequisite: Bring a lesson idea, organized in your DE streaming My Content with songs, images, video, and sound files that support your lesson. Participants should already be familiar with SMART Notebook or Promethean Flipchart.

Find out how to use the video player that comes with your SMART Board to annotate videos. Learn how to attach audio files to objects on the SMART Board, and how to save items that you use often and want to share to the My Content folder. We’ll show you how to find hundreds of Notebook files that have already been created for use on the SMART Board. You’ll be able to find usable files and tweak them.

PREREQUISITE: Level 2 Training or equivalent; NOT FOR BEGINNERS; participants will be sent a survey of their skills before enrolling.
Enhance your ability to create professional and interactive SMART Notebook lesson activities!  This content creation class provides instruction and best practices for creating content with SMART Notebook collaborative learning software. Available for teachers with intermediate or advanced skills in SMART Notebook software, this class will teach you how to create interactive lesson activities based on curriculum standards and best practices scoring guides. You’ll also collaborate with others teaching in your grade and subject area to design and build lessons. You are encouraged to bring any curriculum materials you might need, such as teacher guides and supplemental materials.  Lesson activities created in class will then be shared with other teachers through the SMART Exchange.
