28/06/12 Connecting at ISTE 2012
We’re really looking forward to hearing all about ISTE’s annual conference from our colleagues Martha Bogart, Nancy George and Stephanie Madlinger, who were able to attend in San Diego, California this week. (ISTE stands for International Society for Technology in Education and Cooperating School Districts has it’s own affiliate- Missouri Educational Technology Community, or METC). Of course, we’ve been following the hashtag #ISTE12 on Twitter in real time, but hearing about the experience first-hand is a whole other story! We’ve posted some of their photographs on our Flickr page and have been enjoying those images, too- like this one of Stephanie with Gwyneth Jones and Linda Dougherty.

27/06/12 Level 2 and 3 ActivBoard Training is Here!
The Virtual Learning Center of Cooperating School Districts has two more workshops this summer on your Promethean ActivBoard. Take both, or just select the single session that best suits your needs! Each session runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is $110 for a CSD member and $149 for a non-member. For Level 2 and 3, one graduate credit is available for each workshop (at an additional cost). Creating ActivBoard Lessons to Engage and Motivate Students (Level 2) Learn the advanced features of the ActivInspire and create flipcharts; develop lesson activities that organize lesson resources, make use of sound and images to motivate students and create a story or problem where your students demonstrate knowledge or creativity in a fun way. You’ll be able to create your own usable flipchart, either from scratch or by tweaking a downloaded lesson. PREREQUISITE: Level 1 training or equivalent; not a workshop for beginners. This workshop is Monday, July 2.
Best Practices in ActivBoard Flipchart Lessons (Level 3) Available for teachers with intermediate or advanced skills in ActivInspire software, this workshop will teach you how to create interactive lesson activities based on curriculum standards & best practices scoring guides. You’ll also collaborate with others to design & build lessons. Lessons created during class will then shared with other teachers through Promethean Planet. PREREQUISITE: Level 2 training or equivalent; not a workshop for beginners; You will be sent a survey of their skills before enrolling. This workshop is Monday, July 9.

21/06/12 Who is Flipping Out?
Check out some snapshots of the beginning of Stephanie Madlinger’s workshop on Flipped Classrooms! This is one of our brand new professional development sessions- it’s full title is Flipping Your Classroom with Flip Cameras & Screencasting. At a cost of $110, these participants get a full day of instruction, plus hands-on time with the cameras. Stephanie and the group will explore various online resources for “flipping” classes, and will practice using a digital Flip Camera, and consider how to use IWB software like SMART and Promethean to create their own flipped class. (In addition, if they are so interested, the attendees can earn one graduate credit for their participation).

19/06/12 METC 2013 Proposal Submission Tips
Before you submit your proposal for the 2013 Midwest Education Technology Conference, please visit the webpage on METCconference.org dedicated to proposal guidelines and tips (such as: once you’ve logged into the system, you’ll need to fill out the proposal form in it’s entirety without taking breaks, or you might be timed out). Another thing to keep in mind: because of limited space in the conference program, the presentation description is limited to 60 words or less, so open with a creative, yet relevant, statement that grabs the reader.
There are seven types of presentations options to consider when working on a proposal for METC’s 30th Anniversary:
- 50 min. Breakout Session*
- 50 min. Panel Session**
- 50 min. SIG (Special Interest Group) breakout session (list specific SIG within the description)
- 50 min. Student plus Teacher Presentation
- 1 hr. and 50 min. Bring Your Own Device hands-on workshop
- Half-Day Preconference Workshop (3hr) Monday, February 11 only*
- Full-Day Preconference Workshop (6hr) Monday, February 11 only*
*Limited to up to 3 Presenters | **Limited to 3-5 Panelists | additional presenters/ panelists may not be added after December 19, 2012.
Dates to Note: Preconference Workshop Submission Deadline: August 24th and General Session Submission Deadline: September 14, 2012

19/06/12 Flipping Your Classroom with Flip Cameras & Screencasting … This Week
There’s a new workshop being offered this week called Flipping Your Classroom with Flip Cameras & Screencasting. Are you interested in having more time to work with your students? Do your students need you to help them in small groups or individually? Do you wish you could clone yourself when teaching?
The Flipped Classroom is one in which teacher presentations are videotaped, and students have a chance to watch on their own time. Then during class, the students practice what they have learned under the guidance of the teacher. This workshop will explore various online resources for “flipping” your class, and will explore how to use a digital Flip Camera, and IWB software like SMART and Promethean to create your own flipped class. Discover the time-saving features of IWB & Flip software and how easy it is to share your videos online, through email, or e-card. You will also learn from Stephanie Madlinger how to effectively remove an image from the video segments using the Flip software, and take screenshots using your IWB. Finally, participants will learn how to convert videos and use them to “flip” the classroom or include them in multimedia projects. Bring your own Flip camera or borrow one from us! This workshop takes place June 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost: $110 CSD member; $140 non-member. (One Graduate Credit is available). Knowledge of and experience with digital cameras, and IWB software will be helpful, but not required.
