Wednesday, April 22, 2009 Celebrating Earth Day over K-12 Distance Learning
A couple of my schools are connecting to two different Earth Day videoconferences this April. The first one takes place today, and is with Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center. It promises to “look at many different aspects of ecology including recycling, reducing waste, and reusing items. Students will explore the rain forests through literature and video clips and discover the importance of these disappearing ecosystems.” Next week, we have a connection with the Indianapolis Zoo where students will get “an explanation of the history and importance of Earth Day.” In addition, they will discuss with the presenter how to keep the planet clean.
Both schools are in suburban St. Louis; MVESC is in Ohio, and the Zoo is in Indiana. The participating classes are being green in their field trips- no busses here, just using the Internet to make some great distance learning connections. What a great way to celebrate Earth Day!
