NEWS FROM GLOBAL NOMADS GROUP: Face to Faith (is a partnership with the Tony Blair Faith Foundation) and offers young people the chance to explore their own identities and that of others in relation to their faith. These Global Nomad Group videoconferences aim to increase students’ religious literacy while improving the 21st century skills of critical thinking, collaboration and cooperative learning.
Face to Faith offers schools & communities a unique opportunity to explore faith from an individual and local perspective through to a global outlook by connecting young people from different cultures and faiths.

“Since October 2008, GNG has connected nearly 800 students from Canada, India, Singapore, and the USA in videoconferences that explore how Faith impacts the everyday life and culture of youth today. Cooperating School Districts is working to hammer out all those last minute details that come with planning a conference! The Midwest Education Technology Conference is next week, starting Monday. The programs have arrived, the conference bags are being filled with information, and the registrations are still rolling in! Yesterday, we completed several videoconference test calls successfully from both the St. Charles Convention Center and the Embassy Suites, which is connected to the center. This just landed in my inbox: on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, through a collaboration with KOMU 8 and KOMU.com, MOREnet will stream live the presidential parade and inauguration of the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama.
Through this technological enhancement, Missourians will be able to be a part of this historical day directly from their desktops.
The inaugural ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. To connect directly to the video site for the live stream go to For a 1 Mbps connection; or For a 548 Kbps connection. When several different viewers in an organization view these streams from different computers, these streams can consume a considerable amount of bandwidth. Please consider holding a single viewing to conserve bandwidth.

Cooperating School Districts and Saint Louis University’s AIMS program have worked together over the past several years- you can see Lisa Suggs and Ray Vollmer at the Midwest Education Technology Conference later this month, in fact. AIMS provides really great health and science videoconferences for students in elementary school through high school. From the website:
“AIMS (Adventures in Medicine and Science) provides distance learning presentations through a state-of-the-art high definition video conferencing system. The AIMS Virtual Anatomy Classroom provides hands-on interactive field trips designed to enhance any science curriculum.
The AIMS distance learning programs will be broadcast in high-definition. Please contact Ray Vollmer at 314-977-7377 to arrange your programs on most Thursdays and Fridays at Central Standard time.”
Topics that AIMS covers include: Teen Nutrition and Health; Organ Transplants; Pig Heart Dissections; plus more. This school year, they added a high definition videoconference system into the winning formula! If you haven’t participated in an AIMS videoconference, you’ve missed out.
