Depression & Suicide in Youth: Symptoms & Interventions
This videoconference is presented by Brenda A. Brown, MSN, RN, CPNP, a Clinical Nurse Specialist with BJC Behavioral Health. The 10/23 videoconference at 4 p.m. CT includes:
-Review depression and other mood disorders
-Discuss pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions used to manage mood disorders
- Describe risk factors and protective factors for suicide
- Identify suicide prevention resources
- Discuss warning signs and intervention strategies
Ex: Classroom Behaviors
- Loss of interest in previously liked activities, friends
- Appears tired or sleepy in class
- Irritable or easily agitated
- Difficulty thinking through concepts, making decisions, competing projects
- Aggressive, risk taking behaviors
- Attracted to themes of death in reading, music, drawing
